Cortometraje, videoarte, video ensayo, animación, documental, ficción, videoclip, generativo, abstracto… largometrajes. Convocatoria abierta a cineastas y artistas visuales de todo el mundo.

Las películas seleccionadas se publican en ExperimentalFilms.Online, un catálogo de acceso libre y sin restricciones para creadores emergentes y consagrados de todo el mundo.

Llevamos más de cinco años distribuyendo y compartiendo cine de distintos lugares y perspectivas, sobre todo en Nuevo León —aunque no solo—. Como Kwalhia, desde 2020, el proyecto encontró su libertad y expansión en línea.

Desde marzo de 2022 se proyecta de forma gratuita en CINECLUB ESFERA (El Carmen y García, Nuevo León): de manera semanal (022, 023) e intermitente (024, 025, 026) se han realizado funciones con sus respectivos cineforos.

Con funciones también en la Escuela Adolfo Prieto del Parque Fundidora (Monterrey) y en el Centro Cultural Villahermosa (Villahermosa, Tabasco). Entre otros espacios y proyectos.

Qué programamos

Existe una mirada homogénea que produce y piensa por igual, moldeando hacia una perspectiva única. Buscamos todo lo contrario: detonar las posibilidades narrativas, expresivas y comunicables en el arte audiovisual. Así sin más. Tu visión no tiene que comulgar con una corriente, gusto o género; la riqueza con la que está impregnada es valiosa para nosotros, reconocible en su humanidad. Por ello no priorizamos una manera de hacer o forma en especifíco. La experimentalidad de una pieza artística debería ser parte natural, no una pretensión ni estética particular; sin embargo, «Experimental» sirve de referencia para alejarnos de todo aquello prefabricado. Un ancla para posicionarnos ante la nebulosa del algoritmo. Una IA no podrá hacer arte; un artista podría hacer arte con distintas herramientas —digitales, análogas, tradicionales, paranormales, IAs, etc.— La diversidad que los artistas traen a la existencia sirve de puente para ampliar la realidad.

Temas

La selección Kwalhia continúa: ahondar en la multiplicidad de mundos siempre ha sido nuestro eje gravitacional. Para la presente convocatoria, Crudeza Especular (2027), estamos orbiftando contracorriente hacia las huestes de la monotonía distópica que se regocija en el esparcimiento de un derrotismo y catastrófico futuro-ficción. Ejercicios colaborativos de hiperstición solar. Agradecimiento y reflexión de una vida vivida. Capturar y compartir los fragmentos de mi comunidad, sus luces y sombras. El pulso del planeta desde perspectivas poco vistas. Las manifestaciones de aliens (metafóricos o no tanto) que cohabitan con nosotros. Un poema, un romance, un crimen. ¿Qué nos hace humanos? Sus contrastes. O preguntas crípticas… ¿Cómo reconocer a un ente o consciencia no corpórea? Una voz que reclama genuinamente (en la realidad o en la ficción), o un simple y auténtico examen de consciencia, son solo algunos ejemplos de temas que valoramos con mayor estima. Si tu planteamiento o experimentación o juego o argumento o protesta o improvisación o historia quieren ser vistos, este es tu lugar.

Ante tal escenario nos hemos expuesto desde ya hace varios años, con el gusto que conlleva: preservación y difusión. No desde la viralidad ni lo masivo, sino una honestidad que pueda ser apreciada de manera pública y abierta. A un público presencial, o en la intimidad de una simulación VRitual.

Debe incluir subtítulos en inglés y/o español (preferiblemente, e idealmente en más idiomas).
Se agradece incluir biografía breve, sinopsis, redes sociales, sitio web y correo. Es opcional y se usa para difusión y networking.

Selección

Participar en la convocatoria no equivale a ser seleccionado.
Buscamos obras que dialoguen entre sí y nos inviten a reflexionar. Si nuestro criterio considera que tu pieza no se ajusta a estos términos, no será seleccionada.
Si tu película resulta seleccionada, autorizas su publicación íntegra para exhibirse en ExperimentalFilms.Online y sus proyectos derivados (Kwalhia, Psynemas).
Autorizas el uso de fragmentos con fines de difusión del festival.
Si cambias de opinión sobre la exhibición en línea después de ser seleccionado, escríbenos.
Damos crédito y enlazamos tus redes o sitio web al compartir tu película.

Selected films are published on ExperimentalFilms.Online, a freely and openly accessible catalog for emerging and veteran creators from around the world.

For more than five years we have been distributing and sharing films from different places and perspectives, mainly in Nuevo León — though not only. As Kwalhia, since 2020, the project found its freedom and expansion online.

Since March 2022 we screen for free at CINECLUB ESFERA (El Carmen and García, Nuevo León): weekly (022, 023) and intermittently (024, 025, 026), with screenings and their accompanying film forums.

With screenings also at the Adolfo Prieto School in Parque Fundidora (Monterrey) and at Centro Cultural Villahermosa (Villahermosa, Tabasco). Among other spaces and projects.

What we program

There is a homogeneous gaze that produces and thinks alike, shaping everything toward a single perspective. We seek the opposite: to detonate the narrative, expressive and communicable possibilities of audiovisual art. Just that. Your vision doesn't have to align with a movement, taste or genre; the richness it carries is valuable to us, recognizable in its humanity. That is why we don't privilege any particular way of making or form. The experimental quality of a work should be a natural part of it, not a pretension or a particular aesthetic; still, "Experimental" serves as a reference to move away from everything prefabricated — an anchor to position ourselves against the fog of the algorithm. An AI cannot make art; an artist could make art with different tools —digital, analog, traditional, paranormal, AIs, etc.— The diversity that artists bring into being is a bridge to widen reality.

Themes

The Kwalhia selection continues: to delve into the multiplicity of worlds has always been our gravitational axis. For this call, Specular Raw (2027), we are orbiting against the current, away from the ranks of the dystopian monotony that revels in spreading a defeatist, catastrophic future-fiction. Collaborative exercises in solar hyperstition. Gratitude and reflection on a life lived. Capturing and sharing the fragments of my community, its lights and shadows. The pulse of the planet from rarely seen perspectives. The manifestations of aliens (metaphorical or not so much) that cohabit with us. A poem, a romance, a crime. What makes us human? Its contrasts. Or cryptic questions… How do we recognize a non-corporeal entity or consciousness? A voice that genuinely cries out (in reality or in fiction), or a simple and authentic examination of consciousness, are only some examples of the themes we hold in higher esteem. If your proposition or experimentation or play or argument or protest or improvisation or story wants to be seen, this is your place.

We have been exposing ourselves to this scene for several years now, with the pleasure it entails: preservation and diffusion. Not from virality or the mass, but an honesty that can be appreciated publicly and openly — for an in-person audience, or in the intimacy of a VRitual simulation.

You warrant that you are the rightful owner of the submission. You alone are accountable for any copyright infringement.
Must include English and/or Spanish subtitles (preferably, and ideally in more languages).
Please include a short bio, synopsis, social media, website and email. All optional, used for networking and credit.

Selection

Participating in the call is not synonymous with being selected.
We aim to connect pieces that can dialogue and invite us to reflect. If our criteria finds that your piece does not fit these terms, it will not be selected.
Once your film is selected, you grant permission to publish it in full for exhibition on ExperimentalFilms.Online and its derived projects (Kwalhia, Psynemas).
You grant permission to use fragments of your film for publicity purposes.
If you change your mind about your film being screened online after being selected, write to us.
We credit you and link your social media or website whenever we share your film.

Kwalhia / ExperimentalFilms.Online does not pay in any monetary form for any screening, selected or posterior.
You agree to indemnify and hold Kwalhia / ExperimentalFilms.Online harmless from and against any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages and expenses (including but not limited to attorney's fees and court costs) incurred by reason of any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, publicity, screening, or loss of or damage to the videos entered.
